Free training, exciting careers at sea and ashore
The Maritime London Officer Scholarship is a unique opportunity for 16 to 23 year olds to receive a fully paid for three year training course as an officer in the merchant navy. The training you receive will enable you to become either a deck officer or engineering officer on any type of commercial ship.

In three years time you could be part of a professional and highly trained team navigating an oil tanker, bulk carrier, containership or cruise liner around the world.

Stand out from the pack
As a trained and experienced merchant navy officer you will find that your skills will be very much in demand. With a few years at sea under your belt, you will have the choice to either work your way to the top of your profession or to use your skills onshore in a huge range of professions including many in the City of London. Shipping companies, law firms, insurers, shipbrokers, surveyors and port authorities, to name but a few, need experienced ex-seafarers.

What will I be training to do?
You will train to be either a deck officer or an engineering officer.

As a deck officer you will be part of a team responsible for loading and navigating commercial vessels. Using sophisticated navigation and computer systems, it will be your job to ensure that your ship and its cargo or passengers arrive quickly and safely at their destination.

As an engineering officer you will be responsible for running hugely sophisticated engines and mechanical systems capable of powering the world’s largest moveable objects across oceans.
