
Entry Requirements
Candidates must be aged between 16 - 23 at the beginning of the course.
Candidates must be EU Nationals, permanently resident in the United Kingdom, in good health and able to pass the Maritime and Coastguard Agency medical examination, which incorporates an eyesight test. Candidates must not suffer from colour blindness.
Basic Requirements
Deck and Engineer cadetships have the same basic academic entry requirements - 5 GCSE passes which must include English language, Mathematics, Physics (or Dual Award Science) and two other academic subjects (e.g. French, Biology etc.) all at Grade “C” or better, or Scottish equivalent.
NOTE: A science subject with a high Physics content may be acceptable in place of Physics. A subject which requires a high standard of written English such as history may be acceptable in place of English language.
Preference is given to A level candidates.
A-Level Entry Requirements
Candidates must have completed the course of studies in A level Mathematics and Physics and have obtained a pass in either of these subjects, but preferably both.
Scottish Higher Certificate
Passes in both Mathematics and Physics are required.
